Our theme for June: Mindful Mama
Picture

The Whole Hearted Health Book Club is excited to announce our book for June!

It's The Mother's Mind Cleanse written by Jacqui Lewis, and it's essentially a guide for the modern mum.

Now I have "FEATURE" in the title because it's the first book in our book club existence to focus on such a specific topic/gender. To all the non-moms and guys out there in our WHH book club, please don't be alarmed or leave us....!!! Maybe you could purchase or hire a copy for your partner/friend because it really is fantastic.

Wait a minute- how do I know that? Because I have already read it and I NEED to reread it. So, that's what I, well we, are going to do together.

The book was penned by the amazing Jacqui Lewis who is spreading the word about
meditation for mothers. She co-founded The Broad Place and is a mum herself. Her honestly is refreshing and oh so welcomed if you ask me. I'm all for putting my hand up and being the first to say, "Hey, I'm new here on this motherhood journey and I actually don't know what I'm doing . . . but I'm doing the best I can."
We are all in this together after all.

Like I said, Jacqui lays it all out there. She is very brave and I admire her candour. There were times when I was reading her words and they resonated with me in such a strong way, it was as if I were reading my own journal or revisiting my private thoughts.

Mamas, give this book a read if you are like me and looking for a concise guide to inspire you to take action and be the best mum you can be. There is a lot of pressure on us these days to be a partner, mum, working woman, stylist, cleaner and chef.... so many hats, so little time. This book will help you to reprioritize your life, and not in an airy - fairy way.

If you think I'm full of smoke, maybe you've heard of Not So Mumsy, the life and style blog for the modern mum. Check out this blog post for their thoughts on the power of this book and mediation.

The book is 102 pages. That's 25 pages a week or 3.5 pages per day.... too easy.

You can purchase the book here

Happy reading!

The Whole Hearted Health Book Club, April Book Reveal

Our Theme for April: Inside Our Heads

The Whole Hearted Health Book Club is excited to announce our book for April!

It's Brain Rules, by Dr John Medina, (pronounced Meh- Dee- duh).

Medina is a developmental molecular biologist that focuses on the genes involved in human brain development and the genetics of psychiatric disorders. He is a husband and father to two boys and has always taken an interest in how the brain sciences might influence the way we teach our kids.
--> Medina also wrote the book Brain Rules for Baby. My husband is currently reading this book and LOVES it, so I'll be sure to ask him about it when he is finished. If you would like to know more about that book, drop me a comment in the section below.

He is also an affiliate professor of bioengineering at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr Medina knows his stuff guys and I'm so excited to learn more about the brain.

The goal of this book is to introduce the reader to 12 things that we know about how the brain works, Medina calls these the "Brain Rules."

(The twelve rules at a glance are as follows: Survival, Exercise, Sleep, Stress, Wiring, Attention, Memory, Sensory Integration, Vision, Music, Gender and Exploration).

For each rule, Medina will tell us about the science and research behind that  particular rule, as well as how it might apply to our daily life, school or work.

Brain Rules has 262 pages. This means that you would have to read 65 pages a week, or  a mere 9 pages a day to complete the book in a month! Not too bad.

It seems like a lot of you are buying Ebooks, but I've still listed all the links you could possibly need:

Amazon Australia hardback, paperback or Ebook
Amazon US hardback, paperback or Ebook
Audible Audio Book (free with 30 day trail!)
Prefer YOU TUBE? You can watch Dr Medina's Google Talk (it's only 50 mins)

Our theme for February: "FROM THE INSIDE OUT"

We are live guys!!

The Whole Hearted Health Book Club is up and running and we couldn't be more thrilled

For the month of February we're going to be learning all about the gut biome, which is a super HOT topic at the moment!

The book we've selected this month is The Good Gut, written by Justin and Erica Sonnenburg. The Sonnenburg power couple are both top microbial scientists at Stanford University in California. Yes, both of them. Pretty fascinating.
